Summer School

13th - 19th August 2018 

Parndon Mill artists offer a whole week of workshops and classes in art and craftwork.

Drawing and Painting, Sculpture, Illustration, Textiles, Jewellery, Ceramics, Printmaking, Glassblowing, Lettering Art, Stained Glass, Tutu Making and the Science of Perspective.

Some are single sessions for a morning or an afternoon, others are one, two or three day courses. Beginners are welcome as are those who wish to extend their skill.

Contact the artists direct to learn more, or to make a booking. You will be asked for a deposit when you book a session.

Many of the artists run regular classes and offer further tuition for those who wish to extend the skills they have acquired at Summer School.




DRAWING AND PAINTING
with Deana Kim Page

“I can teach anyone and everyone to paint or draw” says Deana Kim Page, and she does! An acrylic painting or a pencil drawing will be made based on an A4 image or a photograph which each student must bring. The classes are fun and inspiring and suit all ages from 6 years upwards.

FINE ART ILLUSTRATION 
with Corrina Dunlea 

This class is for beginners using pencil, charcoal and pastels with a variety of mini subject areas. Suit students or enthusiastic amateurs.

Thursday 16th 10 am - 2 pm single session

This more advanced drawing class will suit rusty creatives who want to get back into serious illustrations extending their artwork into designs for prints, cards, portraits, etc. Subject forms - still life, people, animals.

Friday 17th 10 am - 2 pm single session


Only 4 people per session
Cost: £45 PP. Includes materials (paper), refreshment & short break, but bring apron or old shirts and sketch book of preferred format, maybe some work outside.

SCULPTURE 
with Ivan Daggett - 3 or 5 day option 

This mixed ability sculpture course offers the opportunity to explore traditional and modern approaches through individual project work. Beginners are introduced to a variety of materials and observational skills to gain confidence, whilst those with more experience are encouraged to follow individual project work supported with ongoing guidance. Materials range from clay, plaster, stone and wood to wire mesh, plaster bandage and found objects.

 



CERAMICS
with Geli (Angelika Hinton)

Geli will be giving informal and relaxed small group classes to bring out the artist in you. Whether you are a complete beginner, or already a keen sculptor - all are welcome.  Dip your toe in and have a go at a hedgehog for the garden, a butterfly, a baby owl or perhaps a kitchen platter.  Some of Geli's own sculpture has been described as “quirky”. She has a good sense of humour. She says herself: "Making ceramics is both fun and therapeutic. You can really lose yourself in the creative process and do something for pure enjoyment."  The Monday and Tuesday sessions will concentrate on making the pieces which will then be dried and fired so that they are ready to be glazed on the Friday or Saturday. Everything you need will be provided.

PERSPECTIVE DEMYSTIFIED

The science of producing accurate perspective drawings will be comprehensively and simply explained, and you will be taken step by step through the process of producing such drawings.

JEWELLERY
Silver ring making with Yuki Kokai

This course will suit absolute beginners and will give you the opportunity to make a silver ring that you can take home and wear with pride! There will be various suggested designs for you to choose from. You will learn basic jewellery making and silversmith techniques, including soldering, shaping, cutting, texturing and polishing. This is a great opportunity to taste a traditional craft and do something fun!

PRINTMAKING
3 Artists, 3 Printmaking Techniques, 3 Days
with Liz Boast, Tania Scott-Durrant, Kirsten Wilson
Learn how to make prints in a well equipped printmaking studio with four presses.

This Summer we will be exploring 3 Lino Printmaking techniques.
Bring an image to form the basis of your print. It can be drawing, photographs, postcard? But we've got loads of ideas and resources too.
Please bring a packed lunch, we will supply tea, coffee and biscuits. Wear old clothes and bring an apron.

STAINED GLASS
with Margery Lovatt

Learn the basics of making a stained glass window. On this one day workshop you will make and assemble a small stained glass panel. This will include learning how to cut glass and lead a panel together.


 Wednesday 15th  9.45 am - 4 pm single session

Cost: £50. All glass and materials will be provided. To secure a place a deposit of £10 is required. This workshop is limited to 4 people.

LETTERING ART

These 2 day taster sessions re-introduce the tools and techniques of formal writing, where you will begin to master a lettering style to use in your own contemporary ‘word pictures’.

GLASSBLOWING
with Jon Lewis

Jon offers glass blowing tuition for beginners and intermediate glass blowers. In the fully equipped glass hot-shop the students will learn all about the ancient and magical craft of glassmaking. On the first taster lesson students will be taught how to make glass marbles, small paperweights, glass baubles and vessels, all of which can be taken home when finished. In a further session a higher level of skill will be attained.

PROFESSIONAL TUTU MAKING
with Rossetti Couture 

Theresa Blake offers one-to-one tuition over two individual days (with some "homework" in between!). You will have the undivided attention of a tutu maker who has cut, made and fitted tutus for Royal Ballet Principal dancers, and designed tutus for world-class young dancers. Students can extend their skills for their own businesses, or learn to make tutus for the sheer enjoyment of it!

Cost: Two days: £600 The days and times can be arranged to suit the individual.
