Dominique Conte is one the newest and youngest additions to the Parndon Mill family of artisans. Dominique expresses her ideas and feelings through kiln formed and cast glass - a media she enjoys immensely. “I love the sensuality of glass; also because I am profoundly deaf I cannot always put my inner feelings into words so glass is my “voice”.
Dominique studied Art & Design at Ware College for two years obtaining a Distinction in her subject, then took a year out spending time in the USA, where major experiences in her life shaped her desire to continue as an artist full time. She took workshops and tutoring learning the skills and techniques that interested her and now has a studio at Parndon Mill.
She has just completed the second year of a three year degree course in Contemporary Applied Art at the University of Hertfordshire, whilst continuing to express her ideas in glass in her own studio at the Mill.
She won a recent House Gift program presented by ITV with a triptych she had made, which has brought her much well- deserved recognition and commissions.
Her interests lay in depicting differing forms of architecture and subjects covered by nature, in an abstract way. Through her deafness Dominique “sees and hears” her feelings and expresses them in her own unique and sometimes very abstract way.
She is currently working on several new and original collections for her one -woman exhibition on 4th and 5th May in the Project Space at Parndon Mill, between 10 and 4pm daily. Please come along and talk to the artist.

Dominique has also championed the The Dominique Conte Foundation - which is aimed at helping youngsters in Hertfordshire who are deaf and have a tough time somewhere along the line.
