Life drawings and other images of life and living things by artists working in a variety of media and means of expression. Drawing is an essential and fundamental skill for the vast majority of artists and designers. Life drawing is felt to be the ultimate drawing challenge. Artists draw for all sorts of reasons and often their drawings are secondary to their main specialism. Drawing is integral in all works of art whether two or three dimensional, figurative or abstract, and many artists make sketches and studies before embarking on a painting or sculpture. These preparatory works often have value in themselves and may offer a peep into the creative process, but drawings have often been sidelined as a primary means of expression. This view, however, has now begun to change with more artists focussing on drawing as an important art form in its own right. Perceived in the past as one of the art world's great secrets, drawing is at last stepping forward and gaining a profile more in line with other fine art disciplines. This exhibition explores variety of approach to drawing. It includes studies in the life class and also out of doors; plants and animals as well as people. One of the artists uses an actual range of human movements to create an image. (This has to be seen to be understood.) Some of the drawings displayed are a means towards making a further art form, most are works of art in themselves. Artists include: LIZ BOAST ALAN BURGESS This exhibition is sponsored by:
