AMONG THE TREES Exhibition dates It has often been said that everybody loves trees. For artists they have always been a source and an inspiration. This exhibition brings together works of art showing some striking differences in approach to the subject of trees. Paintings and drawings range from truthful representation to abstracted impression. Glass and ceramics incorporate tree imagery and objects made of wood still retain a sense of the trees from which they were made. Gerda Rubinstein has been inspired to create a remarkable sculpture. At first glance it is instantly recognisable as one of Gerda's dancing figures, but this one has not been modelled in clay but has been cast from pieces of an olive tree found in Provence. This will be an interesting exhibition to be enjoyed by many.
FIFTY GREAT BRITISH TREES Paintings by Alan Burgess Exhibition dates An exhibition of paintings by local artist Alan Burgess that features all fifty trees selected by The Tree Council to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. These fifty paintings will be presented alongside studies made on the spot in the course of the two-year project that involved travelling from a Scottish glen to a farm in Cornwall and from a park in Northern Ireland to a churchyard in Surrey. The trees selected by The Tree Council offer a fascinating cross section of Britain's amazing wealth of trees. They include one which is the oldest living thing in Europe, a two thousand year old tree which is not a tree and a tree which covers a quarter of an acre.
